Spot-the-peregrine Day 3! Francis has ascended to the lofty heights of the Bell Tower roof! 🥳 Harold, in the spirit of WW2, is having a phoney-fledging and is stuck on the Apse roof. He was hoping Mum would reenact Dunkirk but apparently Mrs P told him that when he’s hungry enough, he will fly! 😂. Lloyd has made it to the other side wall as he didn’t think he had enough room on the front for his wing flapping. He’s still trying to fathom out why he’s got even less space now! 🤦🏼‍♀️. Spitfire grumbled yesterday that she’s not getting enough to eat so Mr P, very much short of patience right now, threw her a whole bird and her to get on with it! Well she and Lloyd jumped up and down on it, played with it round the platform and then got bored. It’s currently discarded like an old PlayStation console on the platform and she’s still screeching for food. So Mr P has done what all parents do at some point and is now hiding out in the tree 😂👏🏻. Never a dull moment here! ... See MoreSee Less

Happy Pentecost Sunday 🔥 🕊️ where our two Happy Pentecost Sunday 🔥 🕊️ where our two platform-remaining Peregrine juveniles have displayed high jinks.

Male P3 (Lloyd) is quite frustrated to be left alone with his “not-so-little Sister’. He’s seen both his Brothers fly into the big wide world (of course we know it as the Nave roof! 😂) and he’s currently experiencing FOMO …. ‘fear of missing out’!

So after breakfast and much flapping, he too took flight up to see the Truman Show camera. He stayed there for quite some time as although he wouldn’t admit it to Spitfire, he wasn’t quite sure how to get back down. He managed it eventually and is now chilling out sat back on the slate.

Fingers crossed he will safely take flight today. Male Peregrines predominantly fledge first from eldest downwards. As Spitfire is the youngest and female, she is most likely to be last even more likely to go to the ground so please be vigilant and do let us know if you find her🙏🏻 as Operation 📦 has to be deployed 😁

…. and the winner in our “Spot the Peregrine” competition is our Digital Media team who found Francis P on the south side of the Nave roof this morning in scenes reminiscent of young Henry last year.

Both Mr & Mrs P were watching the proceedings and gearing themselves up for yet another feeding shift.

Harold and Lloyd are teetering on the edge of the platform wondering if they too should take a back flip dive whilst Spitfire is more concerned as to whether there is any Pigeon left over 😂.

It’s never a dull moment here at Pershore Abbey It’s never a dull moment here at Pershore Abbey …. 😉

Mr P is regretting going along with the WW2 theme this year as in true military fashion, one of his boys has “gone over the top”!

There he was this morning, leisurely flying round stalking the Pigeon posse to find a nice plump bird (“A bit like the Missus” he chuckled to himself!) and before he could say “238 miles per hour”, one of his offspring tumbled backwards into the air and landed on the Nave roof! So he had to abandon his prey and hot foot it back to the Abbey to find out what was going on.

Of course the other three were only too keen to retell the story - all of which was squawked at ‘Mrs P volume’ at the same time so he was still none the wiser! Of course sibling concern only extended a mere 60 seconds before the “What’s for lunch?” squawking kicked in.

Thankfully he spotted his son down on the Nave roof and flew down to make sure he was fine. Before he left, he issued warnings to the others not to sit too close to the edge. Unfortunately they listen to his advice about as frequently as Mrs P does so who knows who will be the next one camping out tonight!

Peregrines often fall from the nest site which was one of the reasons the East elevations was chosen. Junior P will be safe from predators there and Mr & Mrs P can feed him. Between 5-6 weeks old they are ready to fledge anyway so fingers crossed that just like Henry last year, he will find his wings and fly back up.

We will not intervene unless a Juvenile lands upon the ground. We can only take them as far as the Nave roof anyway.

But do spare a thought for Mr P right now who is definitely suffering from PTSD. He’s desperately trying to hang on to his sanity until his big holiday in the Autumn. Mrs P was thinking of Bourton-on-the-Water …. he’s thinking more along the lines of the Great Barrier Reef. Mrs P wants to protect the nest site, he wants to protect his sanity! 😂🤣👏🏻

We are sorry to report that one of our floodlighti We are sorry to report that one of our floodlighting cables has been damaged above the Vestry. Unfortunately this will require expert electricians to be called in to fix the situation and which may take some time to correct.

As a result, parts of the Abbey bell tower will be unlit until the wire is repaired/replaced so please bear with us. 🙏🏻
Week 4 and there’s more flapping with the Peregr Week 4 and there’s more flapping with the Peregrine Perils than the Abbey’s flag in a force ten gale 😂🙈. Our fluffy white “Buddhas” are now predominantly brown as their plumage has come on in leaps and bounds. Mrs P almost chokes on the white fluff in these winds!

Talking of Mrs P, her constant chatter is grating on Mr P’s nerves as it’s like a creaking gate. He’s worried that if he grinds his beak any more in annoyance that he will require a filling. He’s checked the Peregrine breeding manual for the “joys of parenting” and hasn’t found any to date. His one-man abattoir routine is very tiring, especially when the kids just gobble it down with no appreciation. Mrs P doesn’t help either. “That pigeon was a bit tough” she grumbled to him yesterday. He sarcastically replied “Well, I didn’t have time to see if he had Love and Hate tattoos on his feet!” Oh dear, Mrs P doesn’t do sarcasm and he had to exit stage left extremely quickly 😂

We will see much more flapping and running in preparation for their fledging which is usually around 6 weeks. The official “Peregrine carrier” Judy has dusted the archive file box off and is practicing the rescue drill up to the roof. Last year it was the two girls that landed on the floor so fingers crossed this year passes without incident or if nothing else, just one rescue. Let’s hope Spitfire lives up to her name rather than her Mother’s temperament! 😉

Don’t forget you can watch their adventures on our Pershore Peregrines YouTube channel.

Oh dear … Mr P had the audacity to try and feed Oh dear … Mr P had the audacity to try and feed the children their breakfast this morning and received very short thrift from Mrs P. He’s very much in the “Peregrine Dog House” so to speak. We think it stems back to Friday morning because he didn’t have what Mrs P deemed to be a strong enough reaction to the brood being ringed.

Granted the steeplejacks took him by surprise as he was getting a cheeky forty winks in but after one lap round the Abbey, he remembered that it was the annual health check carried out by the humans. He rested in a nearby tree as Mrs P did her best Kylie Minogue “spinning around” routine flying continuously round the bell tower in full voice, calling him to action. When she finally paused for breath, he tried to tactfully remind her that it all happened last year but Mrs P detected a slight smugness in his tone and he’s been out of favour ever since 🙈

We have submitted the name suggestions to Mr & Mrs P for their offspring. Mrs P quite liked the “full stop” one but Mr P managed to persuade her against that as he feared the Peregrine Club would give him a ribbing on that one! 😁

Given that there was a sentiment to honour the 80th anniversary of VE Day, Mr & Mrs P have gone with the suggestion of “Spitfire” for their daughter. Secretly Mr P is thinking of naming Mrs P “V2” but he’s not been brave enough to voice this out loud! 😂

Alongside Francis, Mr & Mrs P have chosen the names Lloyd and Harold for their sons. This is to honour the late Pershore resident WW2 veterans Mrs Joan Lloyd and Harold Wilson who both lived to be over 100 and have recently passed.

So the class of 2025 is Spitfire, Francis, Harold and Lloyd 🩷🩵🩵🩵

Thank you to all who suggested names this year. We hope that you will appreciate the sentiment in this year’s selection 🫶🏻

In the meantime, prayers for Mr P are always gratefully received as he navigates his wife’s feisty temper. 😆
This Sunday 25th May we are all about the animals This Sunday 25th May we are all about the animals as we go out and about in our villages.

Our annual Rogation service takes place at Orchard Farm in Owletts Lane, Pinvin where you can come and worship as well as seeing the sheep and lambs 🐑 This service commences at 10.30 am.

It’s all fun and games in the Peregrine Nursery It’s all fun and games in the Peregrine Nursery this week as the four offspring continue to develop. Last night they camped out on the slate, feeling grown up and adventurous.

They are now walking around more confidently and still stretching their wings. Their adolescent feathers are starting to appear through the downy ones and they are growing by the day.

Mrs P likes them to line up now at feeding time so she can keep them in order. Mr P was most impatient with her bragging about this trick. “They’re not the Von Trapp children!” he snapped at her. Mrs P was most displeased with him on this, especially when he laughed because the youngsters broke out of formation confusing poor Mrs P as to whom she had fed or not! She made some very cutting remarks to Mr P about his gene pool and Mr P thought it was about time he had another fly round the block 😂.

The Abbey Grounds now resemble a boarding school dormitory after a pillow fight with so many feathers that it almost looks as if it has snowed! Mr P is counting the days now until his Autumn holiday and hopes that Mrs P will be a bit less sentimental about this brood leaving home than she was about last year’s lot.

Yes it’s definitely all go being a Peregrine parent! 😂❤️ 🦅
2 weeks old and our 4 Peregrine chicks are still t 2 weeks old and our 4 Peregrine chicks are still thriving thus far. Mr P is in overdrive providing the food whilst Mrs P patiently feeds each chick in turn. They are now starting to spread their wings out periodically and occasionally sit like “white Buddhas” as it is often described.

As we have learned from our friends at Worcester Cathedral, life in the wild is precarious so we mustn’t take anything for granted at this stage. All we can do is hope and pray that we have another happy outcome this year. 🙏🏻

Spare a thought this Bank Holiday for poor Mr P wh Spare a thought this Bank Holiday for poor Mr P who has been up since dawn providing food for our young Peregrine family. It was a very tender moment to watch as he brought food to Mrs P to lovingly feed her 4 demanding chicks.

He’s now taken over babysitting duties so that she can take a break. Mind you, it’s not a very peaceful one now as they are growing stronger (and more fidgety) by the day. Soon only Mrs P will be large enough to shelter them but thankfully they have got the group huddle down to a fine art!

Day 7 - 'And forgive us our sins…’

Pray your five people will be able to stop and see where their lives might be going in the wrong direction, turn around and seek the way of Christ.
