This morning our ‘Churches Together in Pershore’ joined in unity to undertake the traditional Good Friday Walk of Witness through the town. This commenced at the Baptist Church in Broad Street then through the town centre to the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Priest Lane and ended at the ancient Preaching Cross outside the Abbey.

Many thanks to all who braved the rain to take part in this poignant event and those who organised it. 🙏🏻🕊️

This morning our lovely Curate Revd Jayne led a short service of Communion for the residents of Heathlands Residential Care Home here in Pershore.

It was very much appreciated by all those who attended, particularly in this Holiest of Weeks 🕊️and heartwarming to learn that thanks to the kind-hearted staff, some of the residents are able to join our online congregation and watch our livestream services 🫶🏻

Isn’t technology marvellous? It’s hard to imagine the days before our social media and livestream facilities which help us to stay connected when we can’t meet in person.

Many thanks to Revd Jayne and to Paula of Sanctuary Care for organising this wonderful service. 🙏🏻

This week Canon Claire talks to us about Holy Week and the services being held.

MAUNDY THURSDAY 17 APRIL
2000 Eucharist of the Last Supper, Stripping of the Altars and the Office of Tenebrae (Pershore Abbey)
This service will be approximately one and three-quarter hours and will be followed by the Watch until Midnight. You are welcome to leave after the Office of Tenebrae.

GOOD FRIDAY 18 APRIL

1000 Good Friday Way of the Cross Walk Meeting outside Pershore Baptist Church, walking to Holy Redeemer and then to the Preaching Cross at Pershore Abbey. There will be a pause for reflection and a simple act of worship at each point.

1400 Service of the Last Hour (Pershore Abbey) with LIVESTREAM

Today is #PalmSunday and marks the beginning of Holy Week 2025.

Today we commemorate Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem on a donkey whilst the crowds welcomed him with palm branches. This is a pivotal event in our Christian faith leading up to His Crucifixion on Good Friday.

Our service will commence at 10.30 am here in Pershore Abbey and our Ubi Caritas - A Choral Devotion will be held at 3pm.

Today on Mothering Sunday Pershore Abi wants to send out a big virtual hug to all those for whom this day is difficult. To those who are bereaved, those who couldn’t be Mothers, those who are Mothers to babies in Heaven, Mothers who have lost their children, those with whom their relationship is difficult and to everyone who can’t see their Mothers this year for one reason or another.

What a lovely way to start Mothering Sunday weeken

What a lovely way to start Mothering Sunday weekend with the unveiling of our fourth Peregrine egg 🥚 🥚🥚🥚 🦅 🎉

Mr P is SO relieved that all those shenanigans are over and he’s no longer having to perform on Mrs P’s demand! He’s perfectly happy to take his turn lazing on the eggs soaking up some mindful relaxation in the sunshine before the chaos starts. He’s dreaming of the Autumn months and his well-earned holiday. 😂

Peregrine eggs usually hatch between 29-33 days so watch this space 🙌🏻. Hopefully we should see the Class of 25 emerge over the Easter holidays. 🐣 🐣🐣🐣

Good news this Thursday morning! Mrs P has laid egg number three 🎉 🥚 🥚 🥚

She revealed it at just gone 3am. One more to go and hopefully Mr P can take a well earned rest!

Well it’s never a dull moment here at Pershore A

Well it’s never a dull moment here at Pershore Abbey!

Late this afternoon the “Lindo Wing” paparazzi were stood waiting, cameras poised as Mrs P called lovingly to Mr P as she sat in her favourite seat. Mr P puffed out his chest, flew round the Abbey and landed on the overflow spout. It took him a while to work out they were the wrong way round 😂.

Now Mrs P is not camera shy in the slightest but Mr P was getting pre-match nerves so he went off for a good fly round the District to clear his head. Mrs P, feeling slightly rejected and definitely vexed also had a couple of loops around the bell tower. After all, a woman spurned and all that 🙌🏻

Mr P later returned to the platform and did a bit of babysitting on the eggs. Personally he would be quite happy to abide by the 2 children rule but Mrs P wants to hedge her bets. So she preened and she simpered at the edge of the platform until Mr P decided to take one for the team and get on with it!

So all is calm in the Peregrine family once again. Mrs P is brooding and picking at the gravel. Fingers crossed a third egg is imminent.

Mrs P managed to lay egg number 2 this afternoon with minutes to spare before Evening Prayers 👏🏻🙏🏻 🥚 🥚.

Hopefully by Friday we should have all 4 and serious brooding will commence.

This should mean that the chicks will begin to hatch over Easter 🐣. What a lovely treat that will be 🫶🏻

Mrs P laid her first egg of the 2025 Breeding Seas

Mrs P laid her first egg of the 2025 Breeding Season this Saturday 22nd March at 1.21pm 🙌🏻 🥚

Fingers crossed 🤞🏻 that 3 more will follow over the next few days. Peregrines tend to lay every 48 hours.

Brooding starts in earnest after the penultimate egg is laid and hatching is anything between 29-33 days.

Egg-citing times ahead! 😆

This week Canon Claire talks to us about #earthhour taking place this Saturday 22nd March 2025 and asks us to take part by switching off between 8.30pm and 9.30pm. 🌍

Well it’s looking unlikely for a St Patrick’s

Well it’s looking unlikely for a St Patrick’s Day egg laying for Mrs P this year!

After spending all night guarding the platform, she took a break this morning in an effort to woo Mr P into a little more action. Unfortunately Mr P is now fully experienced in the paternal process and he’s holding out as long as he can in the hope that the weather warms up before he’s partially confined to barracks!

By ten past one, Mrs P was at the threshold of her patience and summoned him to a matrimonial discussion on the platform. Well, we say “discussion” but in reality the poor chap doesn’t get a word in edgeways as Mrs P seldom draws breath! 😂🙉

So she pointed out the nice new gravel where she plans to set up this year’s nursery and so on. Mr P took this brow beating for a few minutes then saw a Pigeon take flight and puff! He was out of there like a rocket whilst Mrs P was still in full flow 😂. From the eye roll Mrs P gave to the livestream camera, it’s likely he will pay the price for that impertinence later! Not wanting to lose face, Mrs P spent a couple of minutes practicing her “donuts” in the gravel instead.

Here’s hoping that tomorrow brings Mrs P her much longed for egg and some sunshine to spur Mr P on. 🤞🏻🥚

Well there’s been all kinds of shenanigans this

Well there’s been all kinds of shenanigans this morning here at the Abbey - all of them #peregrine related.

After the annual courtship routine with Mrs P doing her best to coax Mr P out of his chick-rearing PTSD, it seems that they have picked the Sabbath to go full throttle. Thankfully our new pipe organ and our wonderful choir are able to ‘play up’ during worship as Mr & Mrs P do like to make a fanfare. They only have 2 volume settings - loud and extremely loud!

As Mr P is more cautious about entering second time parenting, today it was Mrs P making the donut 🍩 in the gravel on the platform. Peregrines usually lay every 48 hours roughly until there are up to 4 laid. They usually start to brood when the female has laid the penultimate egg but Mrs P started almost straight away last year.

Fingers crossed we shall see the first 2025 egg on the platform soon.
